Last year French Farms trialed this cut flower variety and it did very well in his gardens so we are adding it to our seedling lineup. The flowers are the closest thing we can grow to strawflower, which doesn’t do well in our climate. Winged everlasting is a charming annual grown for its small, daisy-like flowers with papery white petals and sunny yellow centers. In our subtropical climate, it does well when planted in fall or winter, thriving in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it’s fairly drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. The stiff, papery flowers hold their form and color even after drying, making them excellent for everlasting bouquets and crafts. In the garden, winged everlasting brings a light, airy texture and pairs nicely with bolder blooms. Bees and butterflies visit its flowers, and gardeners often appreciate how long it keeps producing. For those who enjoy drying flowers, this is one of the most reliable choices, keeping its crisp look for months indoors. This plant is tall and rangy producing small flowers on very long stems, so give it plenty of space.
