LRC co-owner Muriel moved into a new house in 2023 and decided to build a dream garden for her family. Part of the magic of this quaint backyard landscape is that it’s designed for play and interaction. With two dogs, a toddler, a teenager and a love for bbq’s and bonfires, there is a lot going on in a small space. The design for this project leans into mimicking Florida wilderness using predominantly native plants, with an emphasis on pollinator friendly species. The goal was to maximize biodiversity in order to attract as many pollinators and birds as possible. The kitchen garden is large, with 8 over sized raised beds to accommodate their passion for home grown veggies and the tree canopy includes some rare fruit trees like Jackfruit, Tamarind and Barbados cherry. In 2025 Muriel decided to add egg producing chickens. She collaborated with local landscape designer and friend Mariapia Ormachea to design a chicken coop that her husband later built. The chicken coop has been a super fun addition to the garden and our team hopes to incorporate them into future projects.
