About Little River Cooperative

Little River Cooperative designs, builds, and cares for edible gardens throughout South Florida. For more than 15 years, we’ve worked with homeowners, schools, restaurants, and hospitality spaces to create gardens that are beautiful, productive, and deeply connected to the environment around them.

Our mission is to empower people through deeper connections with food and ecology. We bring that mission to life every day by creating spaces where people can grow food, learn, gather, explore, and experience a closer connection to the natural world.

Our work brings together edible and native plants with thoughtful design to create gardens that feel distinctly at home in South Florida. For the people who work here, that means being part of something tangible: creating places that people use, learn from, enjoy, and remember.

Position Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Nursery Assistant to join our plant production and retail team. This role is responsible for helping the plant production team grow healthy plants and for supporting customers in our retail setting. The ideal candidate is familiar with beginner vegetable plants and gardening, thrives in an outdoor team environment, and can also work independently. Producing plants requires the ability to do repetitive and meditative tasks while paying attention to detail — a unique skillset invaluable to anyone in the farming space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plant Production: Participate in the weekly routine of seeding and up-potting plants.

  • Order Fulfillment: Pack plants purchased online for nationwide shipping or local delivery.

  • Retail & Customer Service: Assist customers with plant selection and checkout during weekend retail shifts.

  • Facility Upkeep: Participate in general tidying and cleanup of the work space, retail nursery space, and farm property.

The Ideal Candidate Possesses:

  • Beginner knowledge of organic methods for edible gardening (pest management, plant identification, plant spacing).

  • A strong, punctual work ethic with basic time-management skills.

  • Competency with standard horticultural tools (shovels, hoes) and the ability to perform manual labor outdoors in the South Florida heat.

  • A kind, open, and helpful demeanor with enthusiasm for helping customers.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently speak with customers about their gardening questions and needs.

Schedule Requirements

  • Weekly Commitment: Availability for work every Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday through 2026, with reduced hours in February 2027.

  • Daily Shift: Work days start at 9:00 AM and include a half-hour lunch break.

  • Team Synchronizations: The team communicates throughout the week via WhatsApp.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in home gardening, agriculture, or horticulture.

  • Technology: A personal smartphone capable of hosting our team app used for scheduling, client communication, and job documentation.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, and comfortably squat, kneel, bend over, and reach for extended periods in variable South Florida weather conditions.
