Virtual Workshop: Introduction to Veggie Gardening in South Florida - Video 4: Summer

For the past 10 years we have been teaching in person workshops about veggie gardening in South Florida at our nursery, however as part of our Covid pivot we recorded our most popular 4 part Introduction to South Florida Gardening and made it a virtual offering. The content in these virtual workshops is almost identical to the in-person offerings, so if the timing isn't right or you don't want to make the trek to our nursery this is a great option for you to learn from us.
Video four is our "summer" section and it aims to introduce you to the wild and weird world of tropical perennial forest gardening. We start with an hour long lecture-style discussion of the following topics:
-why is summer growing so different/ challenging
-what plants will thrive in the summer months
-introduction to permaculture
-what is a perennial food forest
-how to design a food forest guild
After that we move on to conversation about cover cropping with farmer Chris French of French Farms, who is currently cover cropping his vegetable fields to improve his soil quality and fertility. then we grab a shovel and a mulberry plant and plant a tree for you, so you can see just how we do it for optimum transplant success.
